C05: Frames and nominal word formation

The project aims at an innovative approach to the semantics of word formation within the theory frames under construction in the CRC and the theory of nominal concept types. The frame approach offers the possibility of underpinning the semantics of word meaning with a principled and powerful framework of decomposition and also with a framework for modeling the semantic processes involved in word formation as basic operations on frames. Applying the frame approach to nominal word formation contributes substantially to the theory of frames, in particular to the theory of the general operations that are available on lexical nominal frames.
